The top 10 youngest goalkeepers in the Champions League

Mile Svilar is the goalkeeper who has broken the previous Casillas record,  18 years ago. The match was unsuccessful but the two games against United certainly was an unforgettable experience with this young star.

  1. Petr Cech (Sparta Prague, 19 years old): He debuted first Champions League in 2001, the young Czech was confronted by Bayern Munich. But Cech’s impressive performance helped Sparta Prague to score 0-0 draw at the Allianz Arena.
  2. Timon Wellenreuther (Schalke – 19 years old): Young German talents make his debut in Schalke’s 0-2 defeat to Real Madrid and Schalke’s first choice in the 2014/15 Champions League. However, Wellenreuther was unable to stay at the Veltins Arena and was sold to Willem II (Netherlands) in the transfer window last summer.
  3. Pepe Reina (Barcelona – 19 years old): Called up to the Barça team in 2000, Reina made his Champions League debut in 2001, in a 1-0 win over Fenerbahçe in the group stage.
  4. David De Gea (Atletico Madrid – 18 years old): The No.1goalkeeper of Manchester United, who made an unattractive appearance, when he came on for Roberto’s teammate and conceded two goals for Rojiblancos getting 0- 2 in front of Porto, in 9/2009.
  5. Maksim Kabanov (Spartak Moscow – 18 years old): In 1/ 2001, Kabanov set a record for the youngest goalkeeper in the Champions League in a 2-2 draw with Feyenoord. He only appeared once in the 1-2 defeat to Bayern Munich and completely lost on the map of European football.
  6. Adrian Semper (18 years old): He appeared exactly once in Zagreb’s 0-3 defeat to Lyon in the Champions League group stage last season. Semper, who is playing at Lokomotiva on loan and was reportedly rumored to have declined an offer from Chelsea in the summer market.
  7. Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow – 18 years old): Joining CSKA Moscow at the age of 17, Akinfeev immediately shines. He helped “Capital football” team to champion the Russian Premier League.
  8. Nikolay Mihaylov (Levski Sofia – 18 years old): With only one appearance in Levski Sofia’s 0-3 defeat to Werder Bremen in 2006, the son of Bobby Mihaylov legendary broke Iker Casillas’s record and became the youngest goalkeeper ever to play in the European Cup.
  9. Iker Casillas (Real Madrid – 18 years old): Sept 15/ 1999, he debuted in Real’s 3-3 draw in front of Olympiacos.
  10. Mile Svilar (Benfica – 18 years old): With only two encounters with Man Utd, young Belgian talent has made three Champions League record: the youngest goalkeeper, the youngest goalkeeper who defendend a penalty and the youngest goalkeeper who made home goal. The game was unsuccessful but this is definitely an unforgettable experience with “Courtois”.
